The Unique Academy had its Sports Day on 12-08-2011 in
the School Circular Ground. The Sports Day was initiated with the
arrival of Chief Guest Arjuna Awardee Sri. R. Gnanasekaran, Sports
Officer, Southern Railway, Chennai escorted by the Chairman
Mr.R.Elango and school Principal Dr. Godwin Daniel Athishtam.
The Chief Guest Sri.R.Gnanasekaran, Sports Officer,
Southern Railway, Chennai, represented Asia in the 2nd World Cup
held at Montreal in 1979 and worked as a National Sprint Coach of
the Indian Athletic Team in 1986. He was the coach for the Indian
Women Relay team for the Olympic Games held at Seoul in 1988.
He has a National record with a timing of 10.2 secs in 100mts and
21.2 secs in 200mts and was an unbeaten National Champion
from 1974 to 1979.
The athletic torch was lit by the Chief Guest and handed
over to the Head Boy N. Dharaneedaran who in turn handed over
to K.S.Kavishna, N.K.Chitrasena, M.K.Sowbakiyaa and finally
handed over to the School Sports Captain J.Richard Jayaraj who
completed by lighting the flame. The oath was taken by the School
Sports captain to ensure that the students takepart in the games
with fairness and impartiality. The Chief Guest declared the Sports
Meet Open. The track events started off with the finals of the 100mts
dash which was held for Boys and Girls. It was followed by the
musical chair of Tiny Tots, Mass Drill by Sub – Juniors and Seniors.
They had the 4x100mts Relay for Boys and Girls where the children
ran, with Team P.T.Usha declared as winners and Team
Viswanathan Anand as runners up.
Yoga was showcased by the children who performed many
asanas such as Ekka Padha Sirasana Asana, Samakona Asana,
Sarvanga Asana, Kapotta Asana, Badma Mayur Asana, Garuda
Asana, Raja Kapota Asana, Ushtra Asana, Yoga Nidhra Asana and
Paschimothana Asana. The children exhibited the asana’s
flawlessly and was a brilliant performance to watch. Special events
of running backwards for the parents was conducted and prizes
were given. The finale saw the presentation of the prizes, medals
and certificates given to the winners. The Overall Championship
was bagged by Team P.T.Usha with a net tally of 216 points and
Team Leander Paes with 198 points were the Runners Up. The Chief Guest gave his valuable comments on the spirit of
sportsmanship and the readiness to prepare for a future in
sports. He appreciated the School’s education ambience and
the fantastic grounds and requested the children to make the
best use of the facilities. The Sports Day came to an end with
special remarks by The Chairman Mr. R. Elango enumerating
the leadership and sportsmanship qualities. School Sports
Captain J.Richard Jayaraj proposed the vote of thanks. It was
a wonderful day of sports. |
